The Tuko is not the most visible resident of Tanay, though it certainly is loud! During the day they like to hide where you can’t see them, and even at night they avoid the lights.
But no matter where you are, around the clock you can hear their “TU-KO TU-KO” calls.
When you’re not looking, the Tuko is busy eating up cockroach, beetle, mice, and any other pests that live in and around the Sakahang Lilok buildings. They will eat just about anything that fits into their mouth – so don’t grab one, or it might chomp down on your finger next!
This blog shares the amazing wildlife that live in and around Sakahang Lilok, a jewel in the mountains of Tanay just outside of Manila.

Lilok Farm (Sakahang Lilok) is a small organic farm that models sustainable living in rural Tanay. They say “in Sakahang Lilok we care for the land and the land cares for us.”
Through sustainable agriculture, zero-waste living and community programs that expose people to the rhythms of nature, Sakahang Lilok hopes to “re-discover a simple and good life” that can help us learn how to build a more fruitful, fulfilling lifestyle that takes care of God’s creation around us.
